D5100 Settings for Flash

If, when exactly and how brightly the flash lights up for your picture is driven by the following settings:

The camera mode defines among other things if you (P, S, A, M) or the camera automatic (all other settings) decide about flash usage and the available options for flash synchronization vary with the camera mode

  • in operation modes P, S, A, M: pops up and switches on the integrated flash
  • allows setting of flash synchronization with the command dial
  • allows setting of flash exposure compensation together with the exposure compensation button and the command dial
